FUNCTION/DESIGN A pressure washer in its most basic form consists of a pump and a motor. The motor drives the pump thereby applying pressure on the water. This pressure on the water will cause very high water speed and which is utilised during the cleaning. The effect of this is very similar to pinching the garden hose only far more efficient. The pump provides a constant volume of water while the pressure depends on the size of the nozzle attached to the end of the lance.
Cold water pressure washers are pressure cleaners with the water temperature almost identical to the water inlet temperature. In case of water cooled engines slight heating of the high pressure water will however take place.
